“Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.” (James 1:27)
On February 7, 2026, the First Slavic Evangelical Baptist Church of Sacramento held another fellowship gathering for widows, widowers, and singles. Vladimir and Lyubov Brodovinsky, who are responsible for this ministry, organize these meetings with great dedication twice a year.
Single brothers and sisters greatly value such gatherings. They understand one another and, in a warm and trusting atmosphere, are able to share testimonies of God’s mercy, care, and provision in their lives.
At the recent fellowship, Pastor Vladimir Vasilenko welcomed those present with encouraging words from Isaiah 43:4–5: “…you are precious in My sight, you are honored, and I love you… Fear not, for I am with you.” Those in attendance unanimously praised the Lord in songs and, in heartfelt prayers, thanked Him for the attention shown to them, and for the delicious and varied refreshments.
Those who wished to participate received a card with a question. By answering it, they could share their perspective on a particular life situation and point to their unshakable foundation and the support of their Heavenly Father. The questions varied widely; here are a few examples: “Why should we forgive those who cause us pain?”, “What gift from God do you use to serve?”, “What does SALVATION mean to you?”, “Where are you wasting time in your life, and how would you like to change that?”
As they responded, brothers and sisters quoted Bible verses, sang songs, recited poems (including their own), and played musical instruments. The meeting lasted four hours but flew by like a moment—it was so warm and uplifting for everyone.
Glory to the Lord for those who organize this ministry and for those who take part in it. May the Lord bless everyone!
