On March 13, 2026, the annual women’s seminar of the “Healthy Christian Woman” ministry took place at the Second Slavic Baptist Church in North Highlands. This was the sixth seminar of its kind. This year, the event gathered more than 190 participants—women, their teenage daughters, and guests from other churches.
The main theme of the evening was: “The Role of Joy in Personal Growth, Ministry, and Family,” based on the words from 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18: “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances.”
As part of the seminar, the participants heard from invited speakers:
- Ion Cheptene (San Diego), missionary pastor—spoke about spiritual health and how the presence of joy influences every area of life.
- Elena Rotkin, counselor and certified nutritionist (B.S. in Nutrition and Food, California State University, Sacramento)—spoke about emotional and physical health, balanced nutrition, and a proper approach to diets.
- Elena Agafonova, Bachelor of Church Ministry, certified cosmetologist and Totalfit Defense coach—spoke about skincare, hair and body care, hormonal health, and the importance of healthy physical activity.
Each speaker explored the theme of joy from different angles, combining spiritual truths with practical aspects of life. Participants were able to gain a deeper understanding that joy is not just an emotion, but a manifestation of the Holy Spirit’s work in a believer’s life.
Special attention was given to:
- spiritual joy and its source in God
- healthy eating and lifestyle
- hygiene and body care
- harmony of spirit, soul, and body
The presentations were accompanied by PowerPoint slides, as well as a time for questions and answers, which made the seminar especially visual and practical.
The evening was filled not only with teaching but also with warm fellowship: prayers were offered, songs were sung, discussions took place at the tables, and gifts were raffled. One of the highlights was a full dinner prepared by the “Healthy Christian Woman” ministry team, based on Mediterranean cuisine, with menus and recipes provided on the tables.
Many participants took photos of the slides and actively engaged in discussions and practical exercises. It was noted that the theme of joy was deeply based on Scripture, being mentioned more than 800 times in the Bible, reminding believers of its importance in the Christian life.
Elena Agafonova, leader of the “Healthy Christian Woman” ministry, shared warmly about the seminar:
“For us, this evening was truly special. There was so much new, lively, and inspiring content. Once again, we saw that true joy comes from God—it is not just an emotion, but the work of the Holy Spirit within us, affecting our spirit, soul, and body. It is very valuable that all the topics and messages were united by one idea—joy in a healthy, full-fledged life with God, which can be applied every day. We received many warm responses—in notes, messages, and phone calls—with gratitude and encouragement to continue this important ministry for the women of the church.”
This evening became a true blessing, reminding every participant that true joy comes from God and is an essential part of a healthy, full Christian life.
